About these prices

Tropical Beach (Worlds 11) [Finalist]Grading odds
CGC has graded 71 copies. Where they landed:
These are CGC grades. The prices above are for PSA slabs, and a CGC 10 is not the same grade as a PSA 10, so read the two as separate markets rather than one.
Why the verdict weights the odds
Only 1.8% of copies reach a 10, which is why the top price is the wrong number to plan around. Weighting each grade’s PSA price by these odds, a submission is worth $145.23£109.31€127.90 on average against $167.55£126.11€147.56 for the card plus $79.99£60.20€70.44 at Regular, the cheapest level PSA will insure it at. That loses $22.32£16.80€19.66, so a copy is worth more raw.
1 of the 4 grades priced above had no sales at that grade, so the figure is modelled from the grades that did rather than observed.

XY - Steam Siege15/114$3.60£2.71€3.17What moves the price of this card
The Volcarona (Prerelease) [Staff] on this page is the Holofoil printing from Black and White Promos, and it trades at $269.99£203.21€237.77 in near mint condition. Only one printing of this card was produced, so there is no cheaper version to confuse it with.
Graded, it runs PSA 7 $59.06£44.45€52.01, PSA 8 $192.27£144.71€169.33, PSA 9 $212£159.56€186.70, CGC/BGS 9.5 $233£175.37€205.20. PSA has graded 56 copies of it. 46 completed sales are on file.
Is Volcarona (Prerelease) [Staff] from Black and White Promos worth grading?
On the numbers, no. The average submission is worth $145.23 with every grade weighted by how often this card comes back at it, against $67.56 for a raw copy plus $99.99 to send it through PSA Regular, so it loses $22.32.
Condition does most of the work below the surface. A copy with soft corners or a print line off centre trades well under the market price shown here, and a copy clean enough to grade trades well above it. Before you value your own copy, look at the corners under a light and check the centring on the back, where most cards give themselves away.
