Why the verdict weights the odds
Only 25.2% of copies reach a 10, which is why the top price is the wrong number to plan around. Weighting each grade’s PSA price by these odds, a submission is worth $49.78£37.46€43.84 on average against $101.52£76.41€89.41 for the card plus $79.99£60.20€70.44 at Regular, the cheapest level PSA will insure it at. That loses $51.74£38.94€45.57, so a copy is worth more raw.

What moves the price of this card
The Mysterious Fossil on this page is the 1st Edition printing from Fossil, and it trades at $1.23£0.93€1.08 in near mint condition. The other 1 printing of the same card sits lower, which is normal: the scarcer print run always carries the premium.
Graded, it runs PSA 6 $17£12.79€14.97, PSA 7 $16.36£12.31€14.41, PSA 8 $17.69£13.31€15.58, PSA 9 $23.69£17.83€20.86, CGC/BGS 9.5 $26£19.57€22.90, PSA 10 $140.49£105.74€123.73. PSA has graded 2,615 copies of it. 1,406 completed sales are on file.
What is a PSA 10 Mysterious Fossil worth?
A PSA 10 Mysterious Fossil from Fossil sells for $140.49. 27.2% of the copies PSA has graded came back a 10, so that price is the best case rather than the one a submission should expect.
Is Mysterious Fossil from Fossil worth grading?
On the numbers, no. The average submission is worth $52.73 with every grade weighted by how often this card comes back at it, against $1.53 for a raw copy plus $99.99 to send it through PSA Regular, so it loses $48.79.
Condition does most of the work below the surface. A copy with soft corners or a print line off centre trades well under the market price shown here, and a copy clean enough to grade trades well above it, which is why the PSA 10 sits at $140.49£105.74€123.73. Before you value your own copy, look at the corners under a light and check the centring on the back, where most cards give themselves away.
