Houndour

What moves the price of this card

The Houndour on this page is the Reverse Holofoil printing from Great Encounters, and it trades at $5.62£4.23€4.95 in near mint condition. The other 1 printing of the same card sits lower, which is normal: the scarcer print run always carries the premium.

Graded, it runs PSA 8 $24.50£18.44€21.58, PSA 9 $36.40£27.40€32.06, CGC/BGS 9.5 $40£30.11€35.23, PSA 10 $61£45.91€53.72. PSA has graded 31 copies of it. 149 completed sales are on file.

What is a PSA 10 Houndour worth?

A PSA 10 Houndour from Great Encounters sells for $61. 38.1% of the copies PSA has graded came back a 10, so that price is the best case rather than the one a submission should expect.

Is Houndour from Great Encounters worth grading?

On the numbers, no. The average submission is worth $44.64 with every grade weighted by how often this card comes back at it, against $4.46 for a raw copy plus $99.99 to send it through PSA Regular, so it loses $59.81.

Condition does most of the work below the surface. A copy with soft corners or a print line off centre trades well under the market price shown here, and a copy clean enough to grade trades well above it, which is why the PSA 10 sits at $61£45.91€53.72. Before you value your own copy, look at the corners under a light and check the centring on the back, where most cards give themselves away.
