PSA has graded 271 copies. Where they landed:
Why the verdict weights the odds
Only 1.8% of copies reach a 10, which is why the top price is the wrong number to plan around. Weighting each grade’s PSA price by these odds, a submission is worth $802.58£604.06€706.81 on average against $368.99£277.72€324.96 for the card plus $149£112.14€131.22 at Express, the cheapest level PSA will insure it at. That clears $433.59£326.34€381.85, so grading a clean copy is worth the wait.
1 of the 4 grades priced above had no sales at that grade, so the figure is modelled from the grades that did rather than observed.

The Gyarados (Prerelease) on this page is the Holofoil printing from XY Promos, and it trades at $455.33£342.70€401 in near mint condition. Only one printing of this card was produced, so there is no cheaper version to confuse it with.
Graded, it runs PSA 7 $165.07£124.24€145.37, PSA 8 $1,000£752.65€880.67, PSA 9 $1,642£1,236€1,446, CGC/BGS 9.5 $1,806£1,359€1,590. PSA has graded 271 copies of it. 20 completed sales are on file.
Is Gyarados (Prerelease) from XY Promos worth grading?
On the numbers, yes. The average submission is worth $802.58 with every grade weighted by how often this card comes back at it, against $199.99 for a raw copy plus $169 to send it through PSA Express, so it clears $433.59.
Condition does most of the work below the surface. A copy with soft corners or a print line off centre trades well under the market price shown here, and a copy clean enough to grade trades well above it. Before you value your own copy, look at the corners under a light and check the centring on the back, where most cards give themselves away.
